Find out which company supplies you

You cannot pick your water company, nobody in the UK can. It depends on where you live, so first find out whose customer you are.

Open the internet (Safari, Chrome or Edge). Tap the long box at the very top of the screen, type water.org.uk then press Go.

Follow Find your supplier and put in your postcode. It tells you your water company, plus your sewerage company where that is a different firm.
Scotland pays for water inside council tax, so there is usually no separate bill to find. Northern Ireland has no household water bills at all. Everywhere else, carry on to Part 2.

Get a copy of the bill

Most water companies have an online account on their website where bills sit as PDFs. Look for My account or My bill, then register if you never have. You will need your customer reference number, which is on any paper bill or letter from them.

No online account? A photo of the paper bill is completely fine. Most water bills still arrive on paper, usually one a year around April or every six months with a meter.

No paper either? Ring the company and ask for a copy bill. They all do it.
Worth knowing while you are here. A water meter is free to fit and usually saves money when a home has fewer people than bedrooms, with two years to switch back if it does not work out. Every company also runs a social tariff for lower incomes, discounts of up to 90% that hardly anyone claims. Ask us on the call, this is exactly the sort of thing we check.
